Just got an email from a fellow java junkie about the new Handpresso. It’s a portable, manual pump driven single-shot espresso gizmo. Weighing just over a pound, it looks a little like a cross between Austin Power’s favorite elicit enhancement gadget and a snorkle. With a clear receptacle on one end that holds a standard ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) pod and 50ml of hot water, the other end is a hand-operated push-pull pump. Give it about 10 pumps, fill the reservoir with hot water, load up a pod of your favorite black gold, hold it over your portable Handpress portable acrylic demi-tasse cup, press the trigger and out flows a stream of the water of life, replete with a perfect crema. Watch it all in this instructive little video clip. At 99 euros, that translates about 130 bucks – factor in about $40 more for the obligatory carrying case and set of portable espresso cups and you’re all set for Starbucks without the Starbucks. Espresso anytime, any place. I need one. You probably do too.
